Ledenez Vraz is a small island located off the coast of Molène, near Ouessant, in the heart of the Iroise Marine Natural Park. The island is connected to Molène at low tide by a pebble spit. When the tidal coefficient is below 70, this spit remains submerged, making the island completely isolated for about 4 to 5 days twice a month. Today, the seaweed gatherers’ house has been restored and converted into an off-grid guesthouse powered by solar panels. This low-lying island, without trees, is directly exposed to winds and storms.
The guesthouse is unoccupied during the winter. The weather is highly unpredictable, with frequent storm cycles. We offer artists the opportunity to participate in a “storm residency” lasting between 15 and 21 days, depending on favorable weather conditions. The isolation compels focus and allows time for deep engagement. Additionally, the island’s unique and striking environment shifts perspectives, encouraging artists to renew their practices—to experiment, fail, restart, and improve—on this ultra-insular island.
